Over 65 Rotarians and guests attended our first meeting in 2021. President JT Forbus (Accounting | Bogdan & Frasco) invited everyone to enter the Chase Center virtually. 
 
This Day in History
88 years ago on January 5, 1933, construction began on the Golden Gate Bridge, ushering in the "hard hat area" in San Francisco.

In today's audience were District 5150 Governor Mary Bates, District 5150 Governor-Elect Danielle Lallement, District 5150 Governor Nominee Gary Chow, and the following Past District Governors of Rotary District 5150:  Holly Axtell, Jeri Fujimoto, Chris Gallagher, Jayne Hulbert, Riki Intner, Robert Intner, Peter Lagarias, Sue Rokaw and Eric Schmautz.
 
Among today's guests were Csongor Czezar from Hungary; Margaret Miley (prospective member); Jenny Bates who was visiting from the Rotary Club of San Rafael Evening as a guest and the spouse of Laine Hendricks (Public Relations and Marketing | County of Marin); Salvador Farfan (a former Rotarian from Long Beach, CA); Krishna Murthy who was visiting us from the Rotary Club of Mission San Jose; and Rob Valletta of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. 
 
Sunshine Report
President JT announced that Les Andersen (Nonprofit Management | Retired) was recovering from a stroke. Les will be celebrating 52 years as a Rotarian in our Club on February 1, 2021. Our Club had sent a card to Les.
 
Your Rotary Moment
We watched a video clip of Lily Muldoon (Healthcare: Physician | University of California, San Francisco) dancing with her co-workers to celebrate getting vaccinated.
 
Announcement from District Governor Mary Bates
District Governor Mary and Past District Governor Chris Gallagher announced that Laine Hendricks had been selected to be District 5150 Governor in 2023-24. The audience broke into applause. Read the full story here.
 
A Report from the Rotary Climate Action Team Committee
John Mathers (Management Consulting | eVo Associates) reported on the activities of the Rotary Climate Action Team Committee. He also announced the upcoming presentation on climate restoration on January 21, 2021.
 
 
A Report from the Ending Human Trafficking Committee
The audience watched a very moving and haunting video about a young girl who accepted gifts and support from someone she regarded as a close friend. Along the way, the friend coerced the girl into a life of sexual exploitation. Club members were encouraged to join this Committee.
 
$20 for Twenty Seconds
President JT began the donations today and donated to celebrate the selection of Laine Hendricks as District Governor in 2023-24. Many followed and donated to honor Laine. If you donated and would like to pay online, please go here.
 
Guest Speaker
Sunny Singh (Financial Services: Advising | PK Wealth Management), Vice President of Vocational Service, introduced today's speaker, who was Rob Valletta, Associate Director of Research in the Economic Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
 
Rob provided an updated assessment on the damage and contraction to U.S. economic activity and the labor market caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. He explained that recovery was now underway, but the risks of slow recovery remain. External factors affecting recovery include virus resurgence and permanent job loss. President JT thanked Rob and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in his name.
