Member in the News: February 2022
Rick Harrell has won a Jefferson Award. This Award is given to people who build better communities and contribute to better a future for those around them. Rick's work with veterans in the Heroes' Voices Program is giving back to those who had put themselves on the line to protect our freedom and values.
 
Here is the news clip honoring Rick and his Program. Rick joined our Club on August 1, 2014. Through the years, he has shared his musical talent as well as his Heroes' Voices Program with Rotarians and has served as a speaker. Congratulations to Rick!

LUNCHEON MEETING HIGHLIGHTS February 8, 2022: Kate Sofis and San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development
President Mary Liu (Real Estate: Sales | JM Real Estate Group) called the meeting to order at 12:15 PM and welcomed everyone attending either online or in person inside the Anzu Restaurant. She noted that it had been over a month since we got together in person, and she was just coming off her personal quarantine for COVID. On each table were plated hors d'oeuvres and fresh ice tea, showing the appreciation of the staff at the Hotel Nikko for our return.
 
Visiting Rotarians and Special Guests
Today's visiting Rotarian was Ozan Yasavur, a Rotarian from Turkey who is planning to join our Club soon. Additional online guests were Aida Jones, Jeanne Gnuse, and Paul Vazquez from Alliance for Smiles. Guests in person included Theo Ellington from the Salvation Army, Donald Brooks, and today's speaker - Kate Sofis.

Action Leadership Program with Students: Asian American Mental Health Support Event!
For many Asian American youth, talking about mental health is not a common or comfortable occurrence. Whether within the family space or even among peers, many Asian Americans feel there is a lack of a safe space to share challenges or experiences with mental health struggles.

SERVICE PROJECT February 28, 2022: Delivering Meals for The Arc San Francisco
Drivers needed to pick up pre-packaged meals at The Arc San Francisco and deliver to individual residences of Arc participants who are experiencing food insecurity. Exact directions will be provided when you pick up the meals. Hand delivery of meals must occur between 4 PM and 5:30 PM in advance of the Monday Night Dinner Club with Friends Like Me via Zoom to be held on the first and third Monday of each month.

Rodney A. Fong, President and CEO of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, will provide a San Francisco Business Update and discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the City, its economy, and small businesses.

ROTARY LUNCHEON March 8, 2022: Emergency Services Day
This is the day when we honor outstanding representatives of the public safety departments we depend on every day: the Department of Public Health, the Fire Department, the Office of City Administrator, the Police Department, the Sheriff, and the Coast Guard. Meet the honorees and their loved ones, and hear their amazing stories of heroism and dedication told by the top brass of each department. Members and visitors must register and pay in advance no later than March 2. We cannot accommodate walk-ins. Doors open at 11:30 AM; please arrive in time to be seated before the program begins at noon.

The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2022. Artistic Director Rebecca Ennals looks back over the Festival's history, including how the company thrived during the pandemic, with an eye toward creating Shakespeare that speaks to us now and in the years to come.
