Bay Area Anti-Trafficking Coalition Training Opportunity
A message from District Governor Gary Chow: Below is a quick 10-minute, online training opportunity to help our Rotarians recognize and safely act upon a potential human trafficking situation. The Bay Area Anti-Trafficking Coalition (BAATC) has presented at many of our Rotary clubs and Human Trafficking workshops over the past four years. Although this particular training focuses on activities at airports, the same awareness and procedures are applicable anywhere. You can report suspicious behavior 24/7 to the National Human Trafficking Hotline at: 1-888-373-7888.

Membership News: Making new friends in Rotary 
Dora Dye and Mary Fermi A month ago, I shared with you my experience as mentor to new member Mary Fermi. See story here. Mary and I continue on our journey together in Rotary. This past Saturday, she and I along with Rotarians from eight different Rotary clubs in Rotary District 5150 participated in the monthly San Francisco Rotary Clean-up. This particular Clean-up hosted by the Rotary Club of San Francisco Sunset was held at Ocean Beach. Not only did we get to hang out with great Rotarians and clean up the area around Ocean Beach, but everyone who participated that day was treated to free Ben & Jerry's ice cream, courtesy of Roger Kaufman of the Rotary Club of Fisherman's Wharf.

LUNCHEON MEETING HIGHLIGHTS July 19, 2022:  Dianne Easton and Leadership Perspectives
President Christopher Wiseman (Event Planning | Glaucoma Research Foundation) called the meeting to order at 12:16 PM and welcomed everyone attending either online or in person inside the Anzu Restaurant.

Today's Visiting Rotarians included immediate past president Richard Swart from the Rotary Club of San Francisco Chinatown attending in person. On Zoom were president Steve Pomeroy from the Rotary Club of Los Altos, Stan Scardino from the Rotary Club of Los Altos, and president Taye Doherty from the Rotary Club of San Francisco Bayview. Also on Zoom were Interactors Nancy Deng, Jenny Lew, Nathan Tjong, and Erika Wu as well as today's speaker - Dianne Easton.

Rescheduled Celebration of Life for Past RI President Cliff Dochterman
Clifford Dochterman, Rotary International President 1992-1993, passed away on November 23, 2021. Our Club immediately paid tribute to him. See Peter Lagarias' tribute and tributes from other members of our Club. 
 
Cliff's Celebration of Life was postponed due to COVID-19 and is now scheduled as follows: August 13, 2022, at 1:00 PM Pacific time at the Serbian Cultural Center in Moraga, California.

He was a one-of-a-kind man who knew how to bring joy to the world and who positively impacted so many lives with his inspiration and imagination. His family invites you to celebrate his remarkable life. Feel free to dress in accordance with Cliff’s cheerful spirit.

Join us to listen to our next Climate Conversation between John Mathers of the Rotary Club of San Franciso and Steve Bender, founder and President of the Rotary Club of Newport Beach Sunrise. This RCAT Climate Conversation will center on the Global Service 4-7-8-17 Program that was developed by the Rotary Club of Newport Beach Sunrise with the purpose of “Embracing the Future While Respecting the Past”.  Advanced registration required. SERVICE PROJECT August 1, 2022: Delivering Meals for The Arc San Francisco
Drivers needed to pick up pre-packaged meals at The Arc San Francisco and deliver to individual residences of Arc participants who are experiencing food insecurity. Exact directions will be provided when you pick up the meals. Hand delivery of meals must occur between 4 PM and 5:30 PM in advance of the Monday Night Dinner Club with Friends Like Me via Zoom to be held on the first and third Monday of each month.
 
ROTARY LUNCHEON August 2, 2022: Dmytro Kushneruk and an Update on Ukraine
Dmytro Kushneruk, the Consul General of Ukraine in San Francisco, will update us on the rapidly evolving situation in Ukraine.
 
 
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Visit: August 6, 2022
All Rotarians are invited to visit the RYLA Camp on Saturday, August 6, 2022 for a BBQ Lunch at 12:15 PM followed by conversations from 2 PM to 3:30 PM with student campers around causes they have been exploring at Camp and are considering as projects to be implemented in our communities. Conversation topics include: Climate Change; Racism and Equality; Mental Health; LGBTQ+ Discrimination; Homelessness; and Hunger and Food Insecurity.

Kevin McCormack, director of patient advocacy at the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, talks about the progress made by California’s State Stem Cell Agency and the challenges still ahead.
 
 
ROTARY 101 August 9, 2022:  Nuts and Bolts to Connect with Our Club and Activities
Dan Joraanstad will offer a brief training to new and prospective members immediately following the regular luncheon meeting. This training is available only in person. Come and learn all the ways that we connect with our members: social media, Club calendar, Grindings, District and International programs, and more. Whether you are new or returning, everyone is welcome!
 
CLUB SOCIAL August 12, 2022: Bocce Ball and Vino Happy Hour
Dust off those bocce ball skills, and join us for happy hour at the San Francisco Wine Society! We will have the outdoor court reserved from 4 PM to 5 PM for those who would like to play and will then move the party inside at 5 PM to focus on fellowship. There is no cost to attend, but all attendees must be 21 years of age or older. This event is limited to 20 people. Register early!
