First Meeting of 2022
The recent spike in COVID cases prompted our Club to switch at the last minute from a hybrid meeting to a Zoom-only meeting on January 4, 2022. Past President JT Forbus (Accounting | Bogdan & Frasco) called the meeting to order. In attendance were the following guests: PDG Russ Ketron, Rob Strahan of Catholic Charities, and Ozan Yasavur, a Rotarian from Turkey. Joining them were almost 40 members of our Club.
 
Rotarian of the Month
Past President JT recognized Peter Logan (Law: Insurance | Peter Logan Law Offices) as the Rotarian of the Month for December 2021. Peter was nominated and approved by our Board for his service on the Membership Committee and on the Board of the San Francisco Rotary Foundation. He also sends out anniversary cards to members and is always helpful at our weekly luncheon meetings. Congratulations and thank you to Peter!
 
 
Thank You from The Arc San Francisco
Esther Landau (Nonprofit Administration | The Arc San Francisco) and Barbara Streett (Nonprofit Administration | The Arc San Francisco) thanked the following members for their volunteer work with a token of appreciation of original artwork created by The Arc Participants:

Grant Presentation
Dan Joraanstad (Financial Services: Advising | Retired), President of the San Francisco Rotary Foundation, awarded a grant in the amount of $12,500 to Catholic Charities to continue their work in our community. Accepting the check was Darlene Wilson (Nonprofit Administration | Catholic Charities SF). Also in attendance was Rob Strahan of Catholic Charities.

The following donated to show gratitude and appreciation:
  • David Dye (Management Consulting | Retired) for his amazing week of travel and fine dining between Christmas and New Year's.
  • President Mary Liu (Real Estate: Sales | JM Real Estate Group) to thank Past President JT for hosting today's meeting.
  • Jianying Chen (Healthcare: Acupuncture | American Institute of Zhizhen Therapy and New Qigong) for Catholic Charities and their work in the community.
  • Heidi Kuhn (Peace Building | Roots of Peace) also for Catholic Charities.
  • Nat Crawford (Education: Tutoring | Improve Your English Tutoring) for two emails that he had received from parents thanking him for his help in their children getting perfect scores on their SAT exam.

Stephen Herrin, the father of Stephanie Schmautz (Elder Care and Senior Services | The Carlisle), passed away on December 25, 2021. PDG Russ KetronGuest Speaker
David Dye introduced today's Guest Speaker - PDG Russ Ketron who is a polio survivor. PDG Russ gave an update on Rotary's mission to eradicate polio and shared a videoclip of the efforts. Past President JT thanked PDG Russ and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in his name. PDF Peter Lagarias (Law: Franchise | Lagarias, Napell & Dillon) donated to Polio Plus immediately following PDG Russ' presentation.
 
The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
