President Casey Blair (Financial Services: Private Trading | KCB Trading LLC) welcomed the following Visiting Rotarians:  Lorelei and Ron VerLee from Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Anita Stangl (Medical Services | Alliance for Smiles) introduced her guest, Maredeth Griffin. Mary Liu (Real Estate: Sales | Vanguard Properties/JM Real Estate Group) introduced her guest and sister, Jenny Campbell; Jenny will also serve as a RYLA counselor this spring. Next, President Casey thanked the volunteers for today's meeting.
 
 
Upcoming Events
Members were invited to view our Club calendar for information on upcoming events and activities, including Rotary Night at the Warriors Game on February 10; Rotary 101 after our luncheon meeting on February 18; the Homeless Prenatal Program diaper bag stuffing and tour on March 11; and Rotary Means Business at SFO on March 14.
 
Members were also invited to participate in the San Francisco Unified School District's Job Shadow Day. If you can host a student, please fill out this form.

Super Bowl Party and Pool
 
President Casey also thanked Lilian Tsi-Stielstra (Insurance Services | Retired) and her husband, Scott, for hosting the Club Super Bowl Party again. At the Party, David Dye (Management Consulting | Retired) was the lone fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. At today's luncheon, President Casey recognized David for his bravery in a house full of 49er fans by presenting David with a KC chiefs apron and chef's hat. $20 for Twenty Seconds included: 
  • Dan Joraanstad (Financial Services: Advising | Retired) and Bob Hermann (Information Technology: Administration | Retired) who reported on their recent participation as volunteers on a surgical mission to Egypt with Alliance for Smiles ("AfS"). The medical team performed free cleft palate and cleft lip surgeries on children. The next AfS surgical mission will be in June to Honduras.  
  • Tim Hornbecker (Non-Profit Management | Retired) reported that his daughter completed her fifth and final chemo treatment.
Guest Speaker for today was Randall Scott, CEO of the Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District (“CBD”). He explained the differences between a CBD and a “Benefit Improvement District” (“BID”). Randall then discussed the progress being made by the Fisherman’s Wharf CBD to improve cleanliness of the area and to make it safer and more attractive to both locals and tourists. The CBD is funded by store and property owners in the Fisherman’s Wharf area, and the funds collected are used to supplement services provided by the City of San Francisco.
