In times of crisis, heroes emerge. Dr. Lily Muldoon, a member of our Club and an emergency room physician, is that hero. She saw the short supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the urgent need to protect the front-line healthcare workers. Dr. Muldoon quickly put together a proposal for the following:

She would partner with Something Labs that makes these products: (1) laser-cut, reusable face shields; (2) Powered Air Purifying Respiratory (PAPR) shields to be used by healthcare workers to avoid high risk contaminates; and (3) intubation boxes to protect healthcare workers when intubating patients.

Seeing how healthcare workers are working long hours in stressful situations, she would also partner with local restaurants, many suffering from the financial impact of COVID-19, to provide clean and healthy food to staff in local emergency rooms.

Dr. Muldoon presented her proposal to The Rotary Club of San Francisco Foundation. The Foundation immediately responded and funded the proposal. Dr. Muldoon expressed her gratitude on behalf of all healthcare workers at the April 7, 2020 e-meeting to the other hero in this story – Rotarians.
