As today was February 9, President JT Forbus (Accounting | Bogdan & Frasco) celebrated the February 9 National Days: National Cut the Cord Day, National Bagel and Lox Day, National Pizza Day. and National Toothache Day. He then escorted everyone virtually to Pier 39.

In today's audience were Csongor Czezar (prospective member), Daniel Green (guest of PDG Sue Rokaw (Law: Insurance | Deans & Homer)); Jeff Lerner, Jessie Chin (representing Scott Lai of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office), and today's speaker, Frederick Jordan.

President JT and our Vice President of Membership Terry Pickering (Financial Services | Retired) inducted Csongor Czezar (Information Technology: Computer Science) and Scott Lai (Governmental Relations | Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco) who was represented by Jessie Chin. Csongor recently worked on the dictionary project as a testament to his desire to be engaged and involved in our Club. It was through Scott's efforts that our Club received masks from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office to donate to the homeless in San Francisco. Welcome to both Csongor and Scott!

President-Elect Mary Liu (Real Estate: Sales | JM Real Estate Group | Vanguard Properties) talked about the Lunar New Year, what this holiday meant to her as a child, the Zodiac signs, and the traditions: red envelopes and greeting everyone with “Gung hay fat choy”.
 
Lisa ChristianRotarian of the Month
The Club celebrated Lisa Christian (Development | Community Housing Partnership) as Rotarian of the Month. Lisa has been actively involved in our Youth Leadership Committee and has worked tirelessly behind the scenes on Interact, the Action Leadership Program with Students (ALPS), and other Club service projects. Congratulations, Lisa!
 
Report on the Second Annual ALPS Gala
The Gala on February 4, 2021 raised over $20,000! William Funkhouser (Financial Services: Advising | Wells Fargo Advisors) had managed the Silent Auction at this Gala. He joined to thank donors of prizes for the auction as well as members who had connected him to prizes for the auction donated by those outside of our Club. There is a plan to auction off leftover items at a lower price at a later date.
 
Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY)
Christopher Wiseman (Event Planning | Glaucoma Research Foundation) talked about The Rotary Foundation's EREY Program and how little it costs. About a third of our Club have fulfilled EREY to date, but we need all Rotarians in our Club to participate in order to earn Best Club from District 5150 at the end of the current Rotary year.

  • James Kennedy (Interior Design | James Kennedy Design) donated to celebrate the first COVID vaccination that he and his wife had received.
  • Dan Joraanstad (Financial Services: Advising | Retired) donated to thank the Club for supporting him and Bob Hermann (Information Technology: Administration | Retired UCSF) when both them of were very ill in January 2021.
  • PDG Sue Rokaw donated to celebrate her guest today - Daniel Green.
  • Rick Harrell (Arts Therapy | Heroes' Voices) donated to celebrate the joy of providing guitar lessons to more veterans.
  • Lynn Luckow (Development | LikeMinded.org) donated to announce that the wine not delivered for the ALPS Gala was now available for pick-up from him.
  • Lily Muldoon (Healthcare: Physician | University of California, San Francisco) donated to announce that she would be moving to Saipan for an opportunity to serve as an Emergency Room Physician and also work in Public Health.
  • Dora Dye (Education: Community College | City College of San Francisco) donated to celebrate David Dye's (Management Consulting | Retired) first COVID vaccination. When asked why she did not get the vaccine, she replied that "she was not old enough".
  • Marti Sullivan (Development | The Arc San Francisco) donated to celebrate her second COVID vaccination and to announce that all the staff at The Arc was now vaccinated.
Frederikck JordanToday's Speaker
Angela Warren (Law: Immigration | Warren Law Firm) introduced today's speaker, Frederick (Fred) Jordan. Fred is the current Chair of the Board of Directors of the San Francisco African American Chamber of Commerce. He visited our Club in the capacity of a local Black Historian and shared a perspective about Black History that is not generally well known. Fred named events and Black Americans who had shaped and molded our Nation's history but were never mentioned in our history books. An example was Frank Hanson. President JT thanked Fred and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in his name.
