On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, sixteen enthusiastic Rotarians and friends gathered at the Hoogasian Flowers warehouse on Seventh Street to pack diaper bags with baby clothes, towels, and toiletries for expectant mothers. This service project, coordinated by Emily Borland, provides new clothing and supplies to clients of the Homeless Prenatal Program (HPP) in San Francisco. HPP is a non-profit providing prenatal care, newborn care, and parenting classes to expectant and new parents, most of whom are “housing challenged” or dealing with housing insecurity (“couch-surfing,” single-room occupancy hotel rooms, homeless shelters, transitional housing, etc.).

This past week, on Thursday, December 12, 2019, the diaper bags were distributed to HPP clients at two baby showers at the HPP facility on Potrero Avenue. Members of our Club assisted with serving a meal to the clients and passing out the diaper bags. In addition, Susan Dean and her high school classmate, Quincy Yu, passed out handmade baby blankets to the attendees. Emily, Susan and John Dean attended the morning shower for Spanish-speaking clients; Susan, John, Quincy, Rhonda Poppen, Mary Liu and Carrie Condran LaBriola assisted at the afternoon shower for English-speaking clients.
