People
The members of the Rotary Club of San Francisco stand on the shoulders of the giants who went before us.

Paul Harris (1868-1947) founded the first Rotary Club in Chicago in 1905, hoping to bring some of what he treasured from his rural Vermont upbringing to the big city.

Rotary would not exist without his vision of a group of business professionals who helped each other by helping others.
Homer Wood (1880-1976) recognized a good idea when he saw one, founding the club in San Francisco and serving as our first president (1908-1909). During that same Rotary Year, he also founded clubs in Oakland, Seattle, and Los Angeles.

Without his influence, Rotary would not have expanded to include 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs in every corner of the world.

Each subsequent Club president has made a unique contribution to the growth and development of the Rotary Club of San Francisco.

We appreciate the generosity of time and money that many individuals have contributed to our Club:
  • Our highest level of recognition is awarded to Bru Brunnier Fellows in gratitude for their uncommon gifts of support and service.
  • Homer Wood Fellows have made significant financial contributions to our Club.
  • Diamond Circle members have included the San Francisco Rotary Foundation in their estate plans.
We also recognize the dedication of the thousands of former and current members of the Rotary Club of San Francisco, who have successfully shepherded the Club for well over 100 years.
